Why would I convert a range to CIDR?

CIDR notation is more compact and is the standard for firewall rules, routing tables, and ACLs. A range might need multiple CIDR blocks if it doesn't align on a power-of-2 boundary.

Accepted Answer

Only if the range starts on a CIDR boundary (the starting address has the right number of trailing zero bits) and the size is a power of 2. Otherwise, multiple CIDR blocks are needed.
